About Us

More Than Weights.

CU Boulder Barbell is more than just a club - it’s an organization built on community, discipline, & strength. As the premier strength sports organization on campus, we bring together powerlifters, bodybuilders, weightlifters, and strongman athletes under one banner, fostering an environment where everyone - regardless of experience - can train, grow, and push their limits.

Our mission is simple: to build a culture that extends beyond the weights. The gym isn’t just a place to lift - it’s a proving ground for character, a space where dedication meets opportunity, and a place where we grow stronger together. Whether you’re here to compete, improve your technique, or find a like-minded community, CU Boulder Barbell is the home for those who refuse to settle.

From team lifts and competitions to seminars and social events, we create an environment where strength is more than just physical - it’s a way of life.

We are the buffest Buffs on campus.

Core Values

Community

Strength isn’t just built in the gym—it’s built in the people around you. At CU Boulder Barbell, we believe that community is the foundation of growth, both in and out of the gym. Having a support system pushes us to train harder, stay accountable, and overcome challenges we couldn’t face alone.

In today’s world, hyperindividualism is everywhere—society pushes the idea that you have to do everything on your own, that relying on others is a weakness. But that’s not what we believe. True strength comes from lifting with others, not just for yourself. No champion rises alone, and no one reaches their full potential in isolation.

Whether it’s cheering each other on at competitions, spotting a heavy lift, or just showing up when it matters most, we create an environment where everyone belongs, everyone improves, and no one lifts alone. The gym is more than weights—it’s about the people who make it feel like home.

Discipline

Success isn’t built overnight—it’s forged through consistency, dedication, and an unshakable mindset. At CU Boulder Barbell, we believe that discipline is what separates those who dream from those who achieve. It’s about showing up when you don’t feel like it, pushing past plateaus, and committing to the process, no matter how long it takes. The lessons learned under the bar carry over to life—because success, in and out of the gym, belongs to those who refuse to quit.

Strength

Strength is more than just numbers on a barbell—it’s the resilience to push through failures, the courage to face challenges, and the willpower to keep going when things get tough. Physical strength is just one part of the equation; true strength is built in the moments when you dig deep and find out what you're really made of. At CU Boulder Barbell, we don’t just lift heavy—we build a stronger mind, a stronger body, and become the strongest versions of ourselves.

"More Than Weights"

Lifting is what brings us together, but CU Boulder Barbell is about more than just moving weight. It’s about the friendships built during training sessions, the lessons learned through struggle, and the sense of purpose that comes from pushing yourself beyond what you thought possible. The gym is a metaphor for life—the discipline, resilience, and strength we develop here shape us far beyond the weight room. This is why we say: More. Than. Weights.
